Sketching Notes (Plate 46).
An easy method of measurement by heads has been suggested for quickness in the taking of rough notes of garments for future reference. This method will be necessary only when the garments cannot be sent to the studio. The notes must therefore be taken on the spot, and be accurate enough to be a basis for the finished sketch.
Proceed as follows
Sketch in form of head.
Drop a line for longitudinal middle of figure.
Mark on this three more divisions equal to length of head.
Mark the nipple of breast on the bottom line of first division after head.
Umbilicus on second.
Third will be the end of the trunk.
Place horizontal fine for shoulder through pit of neck.
Mark point on each side three-quarters of head length.
